Will fitting pallet racking accessories disrupt warehouse operations?

Pallet racking accessories need not bring warehouse operations to a standstill. We assess the site, stock and workflow, then plan installation to manage access and limit disruption.

Fitting pallet racking accessories can usually be planned around warehouse activity, but some local interruption may still be necessary. The effect depends on the accessory, its location, access requirements and how stock currently moves.

Accessories fitted inside active storage areas may require temporary access restrictions. Pallet supports, rack protection, back guards, dividers and mesh decking each affect the work area differently. Accessories positioned beside vehicle routes may also require temporary changes to traffic movement.

Before installation, we consider the points that could interrupt receiving, picking, replenishment and despatch. This includes:

  • Which bays or aisles need work.
  • How stock reaches those locations.
  • Whether pallets or materials need moving first.
  • Where installers can work without obstructing essential routes.
  • Whether barriers, protection or segregation affect pedestrian access.
  • How completed areas can be checked before returning them to use.

A site meeting and survey can identify these constraints before work begins. We can then provide written proposals and working drawings showing the planned arrangement and installation scope.

For larger areas, the work may be organised by zone rather than across the whole warehouse. This can leave unaffected storage areas available while a specific aisle, bay or section is being fitted. The appropriate sequence depends on your stock, workflow and site layout.

You may need to clear selected bays or relocate stock temporarily. Doing this before installers reach the work area helps avoid delays caused by blocked access or materials remaining in place. It also gives you an opportunity to identify stock that must remain accessible throughout the work.

Where accessories involve work near forklifts, pedestrians or loading routes, the affected area needs clear separation. The installation plan should identify access restrictions and any temporary route changes. Keeping these arrangements visible helps warehouse staff understand which areas remain available.

Installation work can include positioning components, fixing them to the racking or floor where required, and checking the completed arrangement. The exact tasks depend on the accessory type and the existing racking configuration. We can coordinate related work when the project includes other storage or workplace changes.

Project management may be included from proposal and tender stage through installation and final commissioning where required. This provides a single point for coordinating drawings, site activities and completion checks across a larger project.

The likely disruption should be discussed before you approve the work. Our consultation process allows the proposed installation to reflect site restrictions, stock priorities and operational requirements, rather than treating every warehouse layout the same.

There is no universal installation schedule for pallet racking accessories. The number and type of components, preparation needed and access available all influence the sequence. A survey and written proposal provide the appropriate basis for planning the work at your site.

Temporary loss of storage locations can affect picking and replenishment, even when other warehouse areas remain available. Review which stock must stay accessible before agreeing the installation sequence.

Also check pallet dimensions, handling methods and clearances against the proposed accessory. We can record these requirements in written proposals and working drawings, giving you a clear reference before stock returns to the completed bays.

Discuss a pallet racking accessory installation plan

Arrange a no-obligation consultation to discuss pallet racking accessories, access constraints and installation requirements. We can then prepare a site survey, written proposal and working drawings for your consideration.
