What site measurements do pallet racking accessories require?

Measure the available length, width and clear height, plus aisles, access points, columns, obstructions and floor conditions around the racking.

Also record pallet dimensions, load weights and accessory positions, so we can assess fit, access and protection during a site survey.

Pallet racking accessories require measurements of their fixing points, usable clearances, interfaces with the racking, and the space needed for warehouse movement.

The required detail depends on the accessory selected and its position. A pallet support, rear protection panel, upright guard, barrier or rack label each has different measurement points.

  • Pallet supports and decking: We check the relationship between beams, frames and the supporting surfaces. Measurements confirm that accessories sit correctly without reducing pallet bearing or obstructing placement.
  • Upright guards: We measure the frame profile, guard position and fixing locations. The survey also considers clearance for handling equipment around the protected upright.
  • End-of-aisle barriers: We record the rack end arrangement, barrier run and required space beyond it. This helps prevent conflicts with routes, doors and nearby equipment.
  • Rear protection: We check the back-of-rack arrangement, panel positions and any gaps requiring protection. Measurements must account for items attached to the frame without obstructing stock access.
  • Labels and signs: We identify the rack locations, aisle direction and viewing positions. This supports clear stock identification without placing signs where they interfere with handling activities.

Measurements should distinguish the rack’s nominal dimensions from the space available around each accessory. Small differences can affect fixing positions, access and the relationship between adjoining components.

We also check proposed anchor locations and the condition of the surfaces receiving fixings. This identifies issues that may require adjustment before accessory installation begins.

Do not rely only on drawings or original rack information. Alterations, repairs, new equipment and changed stock arrangements can affect the measurements used for pallet racking accessories.

Our no-obligation consultation may include a site meeting and survey. We use the findings to prepare written proposals and working drawings showing accessory positions and relevant interfaces.

Working drawings provide a point for checking the arrangement before work proceeds. They can identify clashes between protection, access routes, rack components and surrounding operations.

For projects requiring several storage or safety elements, project management may continue from proposal and tender stage through installation and final commissioning.

Spartan Direct has worked on storage and workplace layouts since 1982. That experience informs the questions we ask during a survey, without replacing measurements from your site.

Use fixed reference points when recording measurements, such as the floor line, rack upright or building column. This keeps each dimension clear.

Note the measurement location and accessory it relates to. A clear record helps compare site conditions with working drawings before pallet racking accessories are ordered.
